Weekly Weigh-in

2.5 lbs down
159 lbs

Phew! So, this week I did Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. (look for videos at your local library!) The level 1 workout was like taking a nap compared to Insanity. So I've been alternating levels 2 and 3. It's great, same intensity as Insanity but only 20 minutes. SO much better! I don't feel like crying at night. :) Jillian is corny and obnoxious but I appreciate that she uses the same strength/cardio/ab circuits that I've been preaching to people.

If you look at my post about workouts I mention the strength circuits as one of the most effective and efficient. It's just a nonstop rotation of arms, legs, and cardio, very similar to Jillian's. She does 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs. So simple! And VERY easy to do at home, without equipment (small dumbells are nice though).

If you don't feel like buying a DVD or watching stinky Jillian, you can make your own routine. Things like squats, lunges, pushups, etc. for strength. Try combining things like a squat with a press, that way you can kill two birds with one stone. Then jumping jacks, high knees, kickboxing moves, jogging in place, etc. for cardio. For abs you can get on the floor and do just about any kind of crunch, do some plank variations, etc. Get online and search youtube for some moves. Switch it up throughout the 20 minutes. Jillian does 3 different circuits at 6 minutes each. Within her 3 minute strength she does 2 or 3 moves and repeats. Within her 2 minute cardio she does 2 moves and repeats (30 seconds each). For her minute abs she does 1 or 2 moves.

Does any of that make sense? It's so hard to put it in words without showing you! I'll have to put a quick video together one of these days.

Way to go! I have heard really good things about the Shred. Stuff that can be done at home is the best. I am scared of the gym. :\
